Architecture
Why it is engineered this way.
Traditional writing tools optimize for producing text. Soliloquy optimizes for keeping orientation while text is produced. That single shift drives the architecture.
When a system (or a story) grows complex, failures often look technical — wrong output, broken plot — but the deeper failure is narrative: the reader or operator can no longer explain cause, meaning, or next step. Soliloquy therefore prioritizes:
- Modes as molds — fixed pressure profiles so rhythm is intentional, not accidental.
- Dramatic functions — six roles that prevent characters from collapsing into interchangeable voices.
- Crime Equation — an offline decision model that makes moral trade-offs visible before scenes are written.
- Local vault — so continuity is not leased to a remote session.

The interactive engine on this site is the practical expression of that research — modes, functions, and equation running entirely on your device.
Modes = molds
Each mode is a constrained pressure system. Philosopher slows the beat for argument and conscience. Detective privileges clue economy. Adrenaline compresses time. Stage privileges dialogue. You choose the mold so the clay does not decide the shape for you.
Six dramatic functions
Analyst, Builder, Diplomat, Truth-Seeker, Strategist, Sustainer. Assigning function before generation stops the common failure where every character sounds like the same narrator wearing a different hat.
Crime Equation
Sliders for conscience, reward, detection risk, relationships, visibility. A pure client-side gain score and scene prompts. It does not write the scene — it forces the moral geometry into the open before you write.
Vault & export
Projects stay on-device. JSON export/import for backup and migration. Continuity is owned by the writer, not the session cookie.

Why: epic without structure collapses into spectacle.

Relentless
Forward pressure. Decisions under time. Little room to hide.
Why: speed without decision points is just motion.
STAGE
Dialogue-forward
What is said and withheld carries the load. Blocking serves speech.
Why: stage work dies when description replaces confrontation.
SHORT-FORM

Why: short form fails when it tries to be a truncated feature.

The writer
I have always wanted to be a writer.
Rodney Manyakaidze has written for The Sunday News (Zimbabwe), been featured in Mud Journal — the African arts and culture periodical (Zimbabwe-rooted, pan-African in scope) — including work alongside other African writers, and appeared in multiple Intwasa publications. The same practice that sits with difficult moral questions on the page also builds systems for narrative continuity and cultural reasoning.
Shelves that shaped the work: Dostoevsky (a lasting favourite), Tolstoy, Shakespeare, Keats, Thomas Hardy; African writers; American and European novelists; Russian moral philosophy; strands of Chinese thought including Confucianism; non-fiction such as Alan Bullock’s study of tyranny.
